      • PRODUCT DETAIL
The coolant temperature sensor is mounted on the engine block or cylinder head. In contact with the coolant, it is used to detect the temperature of the circulating coolant in the engine and transmit the detection results to the electronic control unit to correct the fuel injection amount and ignition timing. The water temperature sensor is often made of a thermistor that is very sensitive to temperature changes. Its structure and connection to the electric control unit are shown in the figure.
The two wires of the sensor are connected to the electric control unit, and one of them is a ground wire. Thermistors often use negative temperature coefficient resistors. The lower the water temperature, the larger the thermistor resistance. Based on this signal, the electronic control unit increases the fuel injection volume and increases the combustible gas mixture concentration.

The slender head of the engine coolant temperature sensor is in contact with the coolant, and its interior is equipped with a thermistor with a negative temperature coefficient.
As shown in Figure 1 below, when the engine coolant temperature gradually increases, the resistance of the thermistor will gradually decrease. On the contrary, it increases, and as a result, when the temperature of the engine coolant changes, the output voltage of the sensor changes accordingly.

After receiving the signal from the coolant temperature sensor, the ECU corrects the injection time and ignition time of the engine.

To determine whether the coolant temperature sensor is working properly, you need to measure the resistance value, signal voltage, and power supply voltage of the coolant temperature sensor.

      Coolant temperature sensor detection

      1. Install the coolant temperature sensor on the engine and insert its wire connector.

      2. When the ignition switch is set to the "ON" position, there should be an output voltage signal between the "THW" terminal of the water temperature sensor wire connector or the "THW" terminal of the ECU connector and E2.

Or use a multimeter to measure the voltage between the signal line (brown / blue wire, No. 1) of the coolant temperature sensor and the ground wire (No. 3 wire, blue). The standard value should be 0.1 ~ 0.8 V. As the temperature increases, the measured voltage value should gradually decrease.
